Mangal Dosha — also called Kuja Dosha, or being "Manglik" — forms when Mars sits in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th house of your chart (and in some traditions, counted from the Moon or Venus as well). Because these houses govern self, family, home, partnership, longevity, and loss, a strong Mars here is traditionally read as bringing intensity, friction, or delay into marriage.
It is widely misunderstood. Mangal Dosha is not a defect — it is concentrated Mars energy: drive, passion, courage, independence. In a relationship that can run hot, but it is also what makes someone protective and alive. Classical astrology lists many cancellations (dosha bhanga) — Mars in its own or exalted sign, certain aspects, or both partners being Manglik — that soften or neutralise it entirely.
