Vedic Astrology Compatibility

Vedic compatibility is more than a Guna Milan score. The score is useful, but real relationship analysis also reads the Moon, nakshatra, Venus, 7th house, Navamsa, Mars, and timing.

In short

Ashtakoota matching gives a traditional compatibility score, but it is only the first layer. A stronger reading combines Moon and nakshatra matching, the 7th house, Venus and Jupiter, Mangal Dosha, Navamsa D9, and both people's dashas.

What Ashtakoota actually measures

Ashtakoota, also called Guna Milan, compares two charts through eight factors for a maximum of 36 points. It focuses heavily on Moon signs and nakshatras because the Moon governs emotional rhythm and daily compatibility in Vedic astrology.

The score is helpful as a screening tool. A higher score usually indicates smoother emotional and instinctive alignment. But the number alone cannot describe the actual relationship pattern.

Why nakshatra matters so much

Nakshatra matching looks beneath the broad Moon sign. Two people can share compatible signs but still have very different birth-star temperaments. Tara, Gana, Yoni, Nadi, and other kootas all depend on nakshatra logic.

This is why a Vedic compatibility calculator should not stop at Sun signs. It needs exact birth data, or at least enough precision to place the Moon correctly.

The 7th house and Venus show lived relationship style

The 7th house and its lord describe partnership, commitment, and the kind of person you meet in intimate bonds. Venus shows attraction, affection, and the way love is received and expressed. Jupiter matters especially for marriage stability and support.

Stellr reads these placements together rather than treating compatibility as a single score. A low score can still work if charts support maturity and timing; a high score can still struggle if the relationship houses are under pressure.

Navamsa D9 refines the marriage picture

The Navamsa chart, or D9, is one of the most important divisional charts for marriage, dharma, and the deeper promise of a planet. It refines how relationship significators mature over time.

For serious compatibility questions, D1 tells the outer pattern and D9 clarifies the inner durability. This is why a Navamsa calculator or D9-aware reading is useful for relationship analysis.

Timing matters through dashas

A relationship can feel different depending on the dasha both people are running. Venus periods often emphasize love and pleasure; Saturn periods test commitment and responsibility; Rahu periods can bring intense or unconventional attraction.

Good compatibility analysis asks not only "are these charts compatible?" but also "what phase are both people in right now?"

Frequently asked questions

What is a good score in Vedic compatibility?

Traditionally, 18 out of 36 is considered acceptable in Ashtakoota matching, 24+ is good, and 28+ is strong. But the score must be read with the full charts, especially the 7th house, Venus, Mars, Navamsa, and dashas.

Can Vedic astrology predict if a relationship will last?

It can describe compatibility factors, friction points, and timing pressures, but it should not be treated as a guarantee. Human maturity, communication, and choices still matter.

Do both people need exact birth time?

Exact birth time is best because it fixes the ascendant, houses, Navamsa, and dasha details. Without time, Moon and nakshatra matching may still be possible, but the deeper relationship analysis is less precise.
