Vedic compatibility analysis — called kundali matching or guna milan — is the most detailed astrological compatibility system in the world. It goes far beyond comparing sun signs. The classical Ashtakoota system evaluates eight specific factors from the Moon signs and nakshatras of both people, producing a score out of 36 points (36 gunas).

A couple with a moderate Ashtakoota score but strong dasha alignment and compatible Lagna lords may have better long-term potential than one with a high Ashtakoota score but misaligned planetary periods.
