How Stellr Calculates a Vedic Birth Chart

Stellr computes your chart from three inputs — birth date, exact time, and place — using professional astronomy, then converts to the sidereal zodiac used in Vedic astrology.

In short

Stellr uses Swiss Ephemeris DE431 for planetary positions, applies the Lahiri ayanamsa to convert to the sidereal zodiac, derives the ascendant and houses from your exact time and place, and computes divisional charts (Navamsa D9, Dasamsa D10 and more).

Step 1 — Planetary positions from the ephemeris

Stellr uses Swiss Ephemeris (DE431), the same high-precision astronomical data professional software relies on, to find each planet's position at your moment of birth to sub-arcminute accuracy.

Step 2 — Convert to the sidereal zodiac

Those positions are tropical by default. Stellr subtracts the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa to convert them to the sidereal zodiac aligned to the actual stars — the basis of Vedic astrology.

Step 3 — Ascendant, houses and divisional charts

Your exact birth time and place fix the ascendant (Lagna) and the house cusps. From the main D1 (Rashi) chart, Stellr derives divisional charts such as Navamsa (D9) and Dasamsa (D10) for deeper analysis.

Frequently asked questions

What ephemeris does Stellr use?

Swiss Ephemeris DE431, which provides sub-arcminute planetary precision.

Does Stellr need my exact birth time?

For a precise ascendant and houses, yes. Without an exact time, Moon sign and nakshatra are still reliable; Stellr explains what becomes uncertain.
