Mangal Dosha

Also called Kuja Dosha or Manglik Dosha. When Mars sits in specific houses, it creates tension in partnerships. Here's what it actually means — and what it doesn't.

What is Mangal Dosha?

Mangal Dosha occurs when Mars (Mangal) occupies the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th house from the ascendant (Lagna) or Moon. These are the houses of self, family, domestic peace, marriage, longevity, and bed pleasures — all areas where Mars' fiery, aggressive energy can create friction.

The intensity varies by house: 1st and 7th house placements are considered strongest, while 2nd and 12th are milder. Mars in its own sign (Aries, Scorpio) or exalted (Capricorn) may actually channel the energy constructively.

House 1 (Lagna)

Affects personality and self-image. Can create a dominant, impatient temperament in relationships.

House 2

Affects family and speech. Can create friction with in-laws or harsh communication patterns.

House 4

Affects domestic peace and property. Can create restlessness at home or property disputes.

House 7

The marriage house. Strongest dosha placement. Can create conflict with partner or delays in marriage.

House 8

Affects longevity and inheritance. Can create tension around shared resources or health concerns.

House 12

Affects bed pleasures and expenses. Can create dissatisfaction in intimacy or financial strain.

Cancellation & Remedies

Mangal Dosha is cancelled (Nivritti) in several classical situations: if Mars is in its own sign or exalted, if Saturn aspects Mars, if the native marries someone with the same dosha (mutual cancellation), or if the 7th lord is well-placed and strong.

Traditional remedies include Kumbh Vivah, Hanuman worship, and red coral. But the most effective approach is a thorough compatibility reading that examines the full chart — not just Mars.
