The Panchang (literally "five limbs") is the Vedic almanac that describes the quality of any given day through five measures of time. The Tithi is the lunar day, set by the angular distance between the Sun and Moon. The Vara is the weekday and its planetary ruler. The Nakshatra is the lunar mansion the Moon occupies. The Yoga is a specific Sun-Moon combination, and the Karana is half a Tithi. Together they tell you the texture of the day.
Traditionally the Panchang is the basis of Muhurta — choosing auspicious moments for marriages, journeys, business launches, and ceremonies. A favourable Tithi, a benefic Nakshatra, and an auspicious Yoga combine to make a day support certain actions; a difficult Karana like Vishti (Bhadra) warns against starting important work. The same day can be excellent for one activity and poor for another.
This calculator computes the five limbs for your exact date, time, and location using the Swiss Ephemeris and the Lahiri ayanamsa — the same engine behind Stellr's charts. It gives the sky's general quality for the day; your personal daily forecast reads these same limbs against your own chart and dasha to show what the day means specifically for you.
A Panchang is the Vedic almanac describing a day through five elements (the "five limbs"): Tithi (lunar day), Vara (weekday), Nakshatra (lunar mansion), Yoga (a Sun-Moon combination), and Karana (half a Tithi).
Tithi (the lunar day from Sun-Moon distance), Vara (the weekday and its planetary lord), Nakshatra (the Moon's mansion among the 27), Yoga (a specific Sun-Moon angular combination of 27), and Karana (half of a Tithi, of which there are 11).
It is the foundation of Muhurta — selecting auspicious timing for weddings, travel, signing agreements, ceremonies, and new ventures. Certain Tithis, Nakshatras, and Yogas favour particular actions, while difficult combinations advise caution.
The five limbs are computed with the Swiss Ephemeris and the Lahiri (sidereal) ayanamsa for your exact date and place. Note that traditional Vara runs sunrise-to-sunrise; the calculator uses the calendar day, which can differ near the sunrise boundary.
