Vedic Astrology Methodology
Stellr computes every chart from first principles using professional astronomical data, then converts to the sidereal zodiac and interprets through classical Vedic techniques. Here is how, in specific terms.
Technical accuracy
- Ephemeris
- Swiss Ephemeris DE431. Sub-arcminute planetary precision, the same source as professional astrology software.
- Ayanamsa
- Lahiri (Chitrapaksha). The official Indian government standard, currently ~23.85°. Applied per-moment to convert tropical to sidereal.
- Time accuracy
- Birth moment converted to UTC before ephemeris lookup; timezone offsets applied from the birth location coordinates.
- House system
- Whole-sign houses from the sidereal ascendant (Lagna). Divisional charts: D9 (Navamsa), D10 (Dasamsa), and more.
- Dasha system
- Vimshottari Dasha (120-year cycle) from the Moon's nakshatra at birth. Mahadasha, Antardasha, and Pratyantar Dasha computed.

The Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa. The official standard adopted by the Government of India Calendar Reform Committee and the most widely used ayanamsa in Vedic astrology. Currently approximately 23.85 degrees.
How accurate is Stellr's birth chart?
Planetary positions are computed to sub-arcminute accuracy from Swiss Ephemeris DE431, with UTC conversion applied to the birth moment. The ascendant and houses require your exact birth time; Moon sign and nakshatra are reliable for most of a day without an exact time.
Does Stellr use the Lahiri or Raman ayanamsa?
Stellr uses the Lahiri ayanamsa as its default. Lahiri is the Indian government standard, the most common choice in Vedic practice, and ensures Stellr's charts are comparable to mainstream Vedic sources.
